French fund to put Sh500m into Kenya’s green projects

French fund to put Sh500m into Kenya’s green projects
Kenyan companies investing in carbon trading projects are set to tap a Sh500 million allocation by French sovereign fund PROPARCO that seeks to finance environmental initiatives. The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light.

The fund is set to invest an estimated Sh500 million in Kenya targeting projects aimed at cutting carbon emissions.

The investments, to be made in the medium term, will benefit firms engaging in a wide range of environmentally friendly projects, including electricity generation from biomass, solar, hydro, or wind sources.

PROPARCO, which is making the investment as part of a consortium involving Agence Fran?aise de Développement (AFD) and CDC Climat, says the move will boost more investments in emerging and frontier markets like Kenya that have high potential to expand environmentally friendly projects but are bogged down by inadequate capital outlays.

“This strategic decision reflects the intention to play the role of a catalyst for private investment in regions that have been overlooked by investors and have not had access to carbon finance in spite of a substantial potential for projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Etienne Viard, PROPARCO’s managing director. Electricity producer KenGen and Mumias Sugar Company are among Kenyan firms to benefit from the nascent carbon credit market that is driven by Western and Asian companies’ need to offset their excess carbon emissions.
Buying carbon credits allows the holder to emit carbon dioxide —-measured in tonnes—without facing regulatory sanctions under national or international agreements like the UN-led Kyoto Protocol.

The growth of capital targeting green energy projects is set to benefit firms that are rolling out such projects as part of their revenue diversification and cost-cutting strategies.

Unilever Tea, James Finlay, and Oserian Development Company are among seven firms licensed by the Energy Regulatory Commission to generate electricity from green sources for their own consumption, saving them millions in electricity bills.

Other firms are generating more electricity than they can consume and are selling the excess capacity to electricity distributor Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

Mumias Sugar, for instance, received a $35 million (Sh3 billion) soft loan from PROPARCO in 2008 to expand its electricity generation capacity from 3 mega watts (MW) to 35 MW, with over 60 per cent of the increased capacity being sold to KPLC.

In the six months to December last year, Mumias earned Sh161 million from electricity sales to KPLC and carbon credit sales to Japan Carbon Finance. Buoyed by the success of the cogeneration plant that uses bagasse, a by-product of sugarcane, Mumias is investing more than Sh400 million in new green projects, including an ethanol and water bottling plant that are expected to be fed from by-products of its sugar manufacturing processes.

The new capital will also target players in the low end green energy market by, for instance, subsidising the distribution of high efficiency cook stoves, solar lamps, and water filters that are expected to raise the living standards of low income groups living in rural areas and urban slums.

Renewable Renewable Energy Ventures, Green Planet and Natural Light, and Deutrex Trading are among Kenyan firms that have ventured into the solar devices market where demand is estimated at one million units per year, according to the international finance corporation (IFC).

The French investment in green energy projects comes at a time when sovereign funds are ramping up their investment in the Kenyan market, egged on by the country’s political stability and high economic growth that promises higher returns.

Last year alone, four sovereign funds – Norwegiain Norfund, German DEG, French Proparco, Netherland FMO, and British CDC-- bought big stakes in Kenyan companies and extended credit lines worth Sh25 billion, underlining increased investor confidence in the Kenyan economy where the funds typically seek to promote socio-economic development.

UK-based CDC last year announced it was making new investments in Kenya worth millions of dollars, raising its investments in the country from Sh7.4 billion.

World’s Most Famous Bell Now Shines Brightly Thanks To New LED Lighting By MSi

World’s Most Famous Bell Now Shines Brightly Thanks To New LED Lighting By MSi
Recently the National Park Service made the decision to install over 2700 MSi iPAR 38 LED lights to illuminate the Liberty Bell located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2003 the bell was moved into the new Liberty Bell Center, a glass and steel pavilion that allows it to be viewed by the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This new setting is perfectly suited for the kind of efficient, bright and long burning light provided by LEDs.

Cast with the lettering “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” this 2,000 lb.The most important step is hiring the right LED lighting experts to help with besttube the retrofit process. bell has stood as a symbol of American freedom for over 200 years. The National Park Service moved the Liberty Bell to its new home to allow easier viewing by the many visitors who come to see it each year. A special feature of the Liberty Bell Center are glass walls providing viewing of the bell both day and night. This is the ideal setting for LEDs that offer many advantages over traditional tungsten lights that had been previously used.

“First let me say how proud we are to be lighting the Liberty Bell,” said Bruce Johnson, MSi managing partner. An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. “It is a great honor, but it is also a perfect place to show the many bonuses offered by our LED lights.”

LEDs offer many advantages over the tungsten halogen lamps traditionally found lighting important artifacts - chief among them are cost savings in energy and maintenance. LED lights consume far less energy and produce almost no heat meaning reduced cost for both electricity and cooling. Exhibit spaces will also realize savings in the costs of lamp replacement and the manpower that requires. In the situation found at the Liberty Bell Center the typical tungsten halogen light burning day and night will typically need replacement every two months. The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, The equivalent LED light burning 24 hours a day will last up to 7 years.

Another big advantage to using MSi LEDs to light important artifacts is its contribution to their preservation. Many materials can suffer damage and fading as a result of long term exposure to the ultraviolet and infrared light waves that are produced by tungsten halogen lighting. The light emitted by LED’s contains neither of these harmful wavelengths that can result in damage to priceless historic artifacts.

“The color rendering index of our newest LED’s now meet or exceed that of the traditional tungsten halogen lighting,” added Johnson. “That means that museums and exhibit spaces like the Liberty Bell Center can now realize all the cost savings and preservation benefits of LED lighting and allow visitors to view objects and colors the way they were intended to be seen.”

What you need to know about dock safety

What you need to know about dock safety
Accidents on the loading dock may not happen every day, but when they do occur, the results can be catastrophic. Just imagine a 10,000- to 15,000-pound lift truck falling off a four-foot high ledge with an operator sitting or standing on it. It's not a pretty picture. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.

In such an event, the operator is unlikely to walk away with just cuts and bruises. "In many cases, you're lucky to see these employees ever come back to work, and if they do, often it's in a diminished capacity," says Walt Swietlik, customer relations manager at dock equipment manufacturer Rite-Hite.

Keeping employees safe isn't always easy. The typical dock is a hive of activity, with a lot of heavy machinery and people passing in tight quarters while trying to meet tight schedules. Nonetheless, there are steps DC managers can take to reduce the likelihood of accidents in their own operations. Here's a look at some measures that can help.

Not ready for takeoff
When it comes to the loading dock, one of the biggest hazards is unexpected trailer movement, which can occur when a truck driver pulls away from the dock without warning. In this instance, prevention is largely a matter of ensuring good communication. "At a minimum, there should be some way for the dock attendant to communicate with the truck driver and vice versa," Swietlik says.

A common solution is to install a traffic-light-style system both inside and outside the building. When they see a green light, dock attendants inside the facility know it's safe to load or unload; likewise, a green light outside the building notifies the driver that it's safe to start the truck.

Of course, the lights won't have much effect if they're blocked, which happens more often than you might expect. To avoid this, Swietlik recommends placing lights in multiple locations—i.e., not just on the corners of the dock door but also on the sides of the dock leveler. You want someone that has the experience in LED lighting to guide you to the right product shinebright that is best suited to your project.

Consultant Dave Piasecki offers a further suggestion for preventing unexpected departures. He advises DCs to prohibit drivers from getting back into the truck until all loading and unloading is completed.

Mind the gap
Another source of unexpected trailer movement is the phenomenon known as "dock walk" or "trailer creep." Dock walk occurs when the force exerted by a lift truck entering or leaving the trailer propels the truck away from the dock, creating a gap between the vehicle and dock leveler.

To prevent dock walk, companies should, at a minimum, use wheel chocks and if the trailer is not connected to the cab, a trailer jack stand, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. says Swietlik. But wheel chocks are prone to slippage, particularly in icy or snowy conditions. For that reason, most experts recommend using some type of vehicle restraint.

Vehicle restraints come in two varieties: those that attach to the rear bumper/rear impact guard (or ICC bar) and those that attach to the wheel. Rear-impact guard restraints are the most popular and least expensive, says Steve Sprunger, senior vice president of sales and marketing for dock equipment maker 4Front Engineered Solutions. But these types of restraints have their limitations, Swietlik says. For instance, they may not work with trucks with hydraulic tailgates or lift gates or trailers with damaged bumpers.

With wheel restraints,The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, there's no such problem. "A wheel restraint works on all vehicles because all vehicles have wheels," says Jay Jette, president of GMR Safety Inc., which makes the devices. "Where there's a wheel, there's a way."

Both types of restraints are available in automatic or manual models. Manual devices are generally cheaper, but automatic versions offer the added advantage of stabilizing the trailer. That's a particular plus with trailers equipped with air-ride suspensions, which have a tendency to jiggle when forklifts enter the vehicle.

Regardless of the type of restraint used, Bob Kerila, manager of product engineering at The Raymond Corp., advises companies to make lift truck operators—not truck drivers—responsible for securing the vehicle. "Since the action is designed to protect the forklift operator, it is best to require that the lift truck operators ensure the chocks or restraints are in place," he says.

Companies that don't want to rely on workers to see that vehicles are properly secured have the option of using mechanical safeguards. For example, with hydraulic dock levelers, the master control panel can be configured to prevent operators from opening the door or activating the dock plate until the restraints are engaged. There are similar solutions for mechanical dock levelers, such as alarms that are activated if the leveler doesn't sense a restraint.

The advantage of these systems is that they eliminate the possibility of human error. "You want people to be thinking about safety and be involved, but you don't want to rely on good will and peoples' memory," says Jette. "If you don't make safety automatic, [your procedures] will often not be followed."

Companies looking to take safety to the next level can buy software to monitor trailers and dock equipment,Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore". says Sprunger. These systems can be set up to send customized alerts, such as notifications that a restraint hasn't been properly engaged or that a dock door has been left open.

No matter how many safety precautions they may take, companies still need to train forklift drivers on what to do if the vehicle tips over or falls off the dock. Kerila points out that the appropriate response depends on what kind of lift truck is being used. With stand-up end-controlled lift trucks that have an open back, operators should be taught to jump clear of the vehicle, he says. Operators of sit-down trucks, however, should be trained to remain in position with their restraints in place, brace themselves, and lean away from the direction of the fall, he adds.

Businesses cash in now that LED signs cost less

Businesses cash in now that LED signs cost less
Flashing signs with multi-colored lights used to be limited to big businesses, such as casinos. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report. But they are becoming more visible around southern New Jersey, as the cost of the technology has gone down and smaller businesses can afford to use them to lure customers. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs,

Art Handler's Appliance Center put up a large light-emitting diode sign in front of its Pleasantville store in the last month or so, and it has already started to pay for itself, general manager Brian Finkelstein said.

About 25,000 vehicles a day pass the shop on the Black Horse Pike, and a billboard on the highway costs about $2,000 a month, Finkelstein said.

Art Handler's is testing its decision by promoting a special deal of the day on the LED sign, he said.

"People have come in every time I put that (special) up and have purchased something," Finkelstein said.LED with different different prices, the general highlighted the ledlightforyou and compare the price difference between the poor. Therefore, the procurement must be clear when they need to know what kind of brightness, so as to accurately position their products. "It's got great visibility and it's a phenomenal marketing piece for us."

The sign is easy to program, and he can change the message as often as he wants, he said.

Area businesses are expressing more interest in "LED message centers," said Michael Franklin, owner of the Eastern Sign Co. in Egg Harbor Township, which sells and installs the signs as well as more conventional ones. Watchfire, based in Illinois, does the actual manufacturing.

"They're not cheap, but (businesses are) finding that it's worth the money to put them up," Franklin said. "It's an attention getter, and they're very user-friendly."

Art Handler's paid about $22,000 for its double-sided sign, Franklin said. Message centers with a single side or fewer colors cost less.

LED message centers will become more popular as merchants realize their power to attract customers, Franklin said.

In some cases, the makers of products sold in the store help the business owner pay for the signs in exchange for on-site advertising, he said.

But some southern New Jersey municipalities don't allow the LED message centers, and others are trying to ban them,These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. Franklin said.

Flashing LED signs are prohibited in Northfield, City Clerk Mary Canesi said. LED signs with a constant message are permitted only with approval from the Planning Board.

Atlantic City, of course, is one city that has no problem with showy displays of lights. But the gaming halls aren't the only ones using them.

Atlantic City Bar & Grill on Pacific Avenue has two such signs, said Gino Garofalo, who owns the restaurant along with his brother, Ron Garofalo.

Garofalo said he bought his first LED sign seven years ago, the first non-casino property in town to have one. He bought it because he got tired of spending a few thousand dollars a year to repair his neon signs. He admitted it was difficult to spend $40,000 on the sign, which was state-of-the-art at the time.

"I took a gamble on it, and it worked," Garofalo said.

He spent another $40,000 at the end of 2009 to install a second sign, but with much higher definition than the earlier version,Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore". Garofalo said. The second sign allows him to show videos of his chef preparing signature dishes.

Lighthouse of Trenton Offers Diverse Selection of Light Fixtures, Design Services

Lighthouse of Trenton Offers Diverse Selection of Light Fixtures, Design Services
Twenty-seven years ago, Suzanne Wallace,The settlement resolves the commonwealth's claims fluorescent lights that EarthTronics Inc., which sells mercury-containing compact fluorescent light bulbsCompact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. a Michigan State graduate,Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations. designer and mother of two, decided to venture back into working outside the home and found part-time employment at the Lighthouse of Trenton. While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates. After approximately 10 years of employment with the shop, the owner decided to retire and Wallace, with the help of her husband Pete, decided to take over the helm and incorporate her own passion for home décor and design into the business.

“Lighting is a key component of home design,” says Wallace, who is a lifelong Downriver resident. Under the direction of Wallace, the Lighthouse of Trenton has been selling indoor and outdoor lighting solutions, ceiling fans, replacement lampshades and decorative home accessories for more than 15 years. “We have something for every budget—from low (prices) to high and everything in between.” says Wallace. The store specializes in in-house repairs and prides itself on quality and service.

That service includes four staff members committed to continuing their education by enrolling in training and taking part in informative seminars to keep up on new products and services. They are also certified as Lighting Experts by the American Lighting Association.

The store also hosts its own informative workshops, including the upcoming LED Lighting Seminar on May 19. The event, which runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is free to the public, is intended to instruct the community on the ins and outs of LED lighting. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to check out new products and items currently on sale.

Mary Gilmour,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. who works in both design and sales, has enjoyed working for Wallace for more than 15 years because “it is a fun place to work and the work is always challenging.”

The challenging work environment is only one benefit of being a small-business owner for Wallace, who also cites “working with customers, both longtime and new” as key to her compassion for retail work. Expanding the customer base excites her professionally as well.

While being a small-business owner has many perks, it does have its downside. “You are tied to the business 24-7 and when you only have four employees, you are always having to fill in when necessary.” says Wallace. “You are always the first to make sacrifices for the business.”

Another downfall for all small-business owners is fighting stereotypes about price and selection. For Wallace, the misconception that shopping with smaller retailers is costly and limited is unfounded and difficult to shake. She is resolute that the “knowledge and service” that one receives at the Lighthouse can't be compared to what consumers will receive at large chain stores. She also ensures that “we are competitively priced. We have to be in order to survive.”

Like many business owners in Trenton, Wallace has felt the effects of the struggling economy, especially in the last two years. “In difficult economic times, it is a challenge to be a small-business owner.” Happily, the last few months have seen an upturn financially and she is optimistic that business will continue to grow.

Those looking for new light fixtures or home décor are encouraged to stop by the store for a consultation with measurements, style preferences and color choices in hand. The staff will use this information to help the customer find the style and price-point that is right for them. Products that are not in stock can be easily ordered and will be delivered for free in the Downriver Area.

Semiconductor Revenues Hang Tough

Semiconductor Revenues Hang Tough
So far, semiconductor industry revenue has been surprisingly strong in spite of shaky macroeconomic fundamentals such as persistently high unemployment rates, high fuel costs, and sluggish consumer spending, and in spite of natural disasters such as the Japanese earthquake in mid-March. It is clear that the pervasiveness of electronics through all sectors of the economy is creating a feedback loop that is amplifying demand for semiconductor components that are smaller, faster, and more efficient than ever before.Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb

Although I am cautious in my expectations for growth this year, I am still bullish on the semiconductor industry, and in light of earnings results and forecasts from a number of semiconductor industry heavy hitters, I still believe the semiconductor industry in on track to meet my 10 percent revenue growth expectations for 2011.

The most recent data from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) was rather encouraging as it demonstrated that the sequential revenue growth rate during the March quarter was higher than the seasonal trend. In fact, March quarter semiconductor revenue grew by 0.4 percent, which was higher than the seasonal rate that calls for a decline of 4 percent during the period; this sequential growth rate was, however, a bit lower than my forecast of 1 percent growth.

Nonetheless, the three-month moving average (3MMA) global semiconductor revenue in March increased approximately 2.5 percent to $25.3 billion from the $24.7 billion achieved in February, representing a year-over-year increase of 8.57 percent.

Looking back at the March quarter financial results of one of the heavy hitters in the semiconductor industry, I also saw some encouraging data. Intel's (INTC) financial results during the March quarter were strong despite growing fears of a significant consumer pull back. Intel continued to deliver financial results and forecasts that not only surprised many analysts on the Street but also defied many third party research predictions.

Demand from emerging markets and from enterprise businesses drove Intel's March quarter revenue to $12.8 billion, higher than the Street's estimate of $11.6 billion and higher that management's own guided range of $11.3 billion to $12.1 billion. Even more encouraging, however, was that management forecasted revenue growth of over 20 percent during 2011, as it sees strong consumer PC growth driven by improving macroeconomic conditions in emerging markets.

Such is the case that Intel basically reiterated its double-digit PC unit growth rate, which contradicted the decreasing trend in estimates currently forecasted by many third party market followers.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. It is clear that Intel is seeing growth coming from all directions, particularly from tablets and handhelds. The combination of management's efforts to stay on the forefront of technology along with the need to meet an expanding market's demand has led Intel to increased its capital spending plans during 2011 to $10.2 billion plus or minus $400 million,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. up from the $9 billion projected back in January -- approximately double the $5.The 250U actually had a slightly higher マジコンds average upload speed—.96Mbps up as compared to the U600's .94Mbps2 billion spent in 2010. In essence, the combination of an improving global economy, better products, and an expanding market will lead to strong growth in 2011 for Intel.

Even if PC sales were to land below Intel's projections, I still see semiconductor revenue growth fueled by a wider range of other products that go beyond computers, such as smart phones, tablets, and industrial applications. Other contributing factors should come from automotive electronics, increasing connectivity in the home, LED lighting,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. upgrades in communication infrastructure driven by 4G networks, and of course expansion in cloud computing.

As such, I continue to see semiconductor revenue growth of 10 percent for this full year, with June quarter increasing 4 percent, a bit stronger than seasonal growth.

Coming of age in 9/11 aftermath

Coming of age in 9/11 aftermath
In light of Osama bin Laden's death Monday almost 10 years after the terror attacks that rocked Americans, college students in Shasta County reflected on the day that introduced many of them to war for the first time.

But for some who were children on Sept. 11, 2001, that day led to more than just fear or sadness.

"I actually feel like I don't trust our government as much as I did before. They're in so much power and control," said 21-year-old Shasta College student Jessie Peckham.

Much like those growing up during the Vietnam War, many local students say coming of age in the aftermath of 9/11 molded their views on everything from prejudice to foreign policy.

Kristen Hall, an 18-year-old Shasta College student, said she's certain that dealing with the 9/11 attacks as a child shaped her anti-war beliefs.

"Seeing how my mom reacted to it, it's just not something I like at all. I'm virtually against war just because of that," she said.

Hall said she hadn't thought about war much before 9/11, but feeling personally threatened changed her point of view on the subject.

"If that hadn't have happened ... I heard about the Vietnam War, but that didn't have an impact on me at all," she said. "It does have a huge impact on me and my view of war,The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. because it was here."

Rory Anderson, 24, of Shasta Lake said he witnessed prejudice for the first time after 9/11 and the backlash from the attacks led him to be more open-minded.

"I didn't like afterward and how they're generalizing and blaming one people for several people's actions," he said. "Everyone was like, 'Bomb Iran! Bomb Iraq! Bomb Afghanistan!' And you know that not every one of them had to do with it."

Claire Settlemire, 17,"The current economic environment is putting great pet supply stores strain on veterinarians who are well established in this community," a Shasta High School senior who takes classes at Shasta College, agreed.

"The sad thing is, there's innocent civilians being affected by this,Camping manufacturer Vango inflatable seat is claiming a first with its innovative pump-up range of tents. and I feel so bad for those people, just being stereotyped," she said.

But Settlemire said, unlike many of her peers, she supports the wars in the Middle East,t sounds like man and wildlife are on a schedule 40 pvc pipe collision course, but it doesn't have to be that way. although foreign conflict isn't ideal.

"I think it's something we couldn't really get around," she said. "I just wish it didn't make us have to act." And having four friends who have enlisted in the military in the past year has made her more sensitive to war, Settlemire said, adding that they all felt a need to protect their country after the terrorist attacks.

"They feel it's their duty; they have that sort of attitude," she said.

But Peckham said she doesn't feel war was justified, and the government didn't give enough information to the public for her to endorse it.Black bears are already making their way from pool table covers their dens in search of food, often trekking through neighborhoods on their quest.

"I thought it was all propaganda. I still don't think they have any proof," she said. "They treat us like we're stupid. They would talk in circles."

Peckham said she supports the troops because her brother enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after 9/11, but she doesn't think they should be in the Middle East. And just because bin Laden was killed, it doesn't mean they'll be pulling out soon, she said.

"What does it change? We're still in Afghanistan. We're still in Iraq. We're still invading other countries," she said. "People say they're excited, but it's also been how many years? I don't trust a lot of it."

How to publish news online

How to publish news online

In the winter of 1992, I traveled by motorcycle from Oakland to Boston to take a job as a freelance editor. At the time, my exposure to computing amounted to little more than using vim and nroff to write philosophy papers on the UC Santa Cruz campus mainframe - there had been no GUIs or mice in my life. I had come to work as an editor, not as a technologist.

My new ZiffNet overlord stuck me in a cubicle with a scanner, a 32MHz 386 running Windows 3.0 , and a 14.4 external modem connected to a socket in a Dilbert-gray wall. I have many awesome memories of my years at ZiffNet and ZDNet, but few stand out as starkly as the constant howl of those modems - 30 or so people in a room, all connecting dozens of times per day to get their work done on CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL, and a syndication stream we ran called ZD Wire. The web had been invented a couple years prior, but its tsunami hadn’t yet hit ZiffNet’s corporate shores (or much of the world’s, for that matter).

Ziff-Davis was at the peak of its technology magazine publishing days,Whether foreign companies or engineering companies in the procurement of マジコン with, do not just focus on price, from the following aspects to the comprehensive examination in order to get a good price band Led Tube. and the dozen or so pubs under its umbrella were generating massive amounts of content. But amazingly,As both sides of Hunan Province inflatable seat, turned the first Led Tube, but also both sides of the country's largest turn Led Tube there was no central database to house all of those articles. Each book had its own system, and none of them talked to each other. What we received at the mothership in Boston were the same dead tree magazines the subscribers got.

That’s where I came in. To feed the ZD Wire beast, someone had to hand-pick articles, scan them on a flatbed, and manually correct all the errors made by the “state of the art” OCR software of the day. Predictably, zeroes and Ohs were hard for it to discern, as were fives and S’s. Column breaks had to be carefully selected to give the software its marching orders, and entire paragraphs would occasionally be mangled beyond repair. Guess who got to re-type the mangled bits in from scratch?

I was given rudimentary training and left with a stack of manuals on DOS and XyWrite. “Read up, Sonny!,” my wonderful and delightfully zany boss Sarah Delaney joked. Ah, XyWrite, the 1990s text-based word processor of choice for newsrooms across the country. XyWrite seemed arcane (if not downright Byzantine) as you first tried to find your footing, but most long-time users eventually fell head over heels in love with its huge collection of hotkeys and customizable macros.Led Tube with the use of the chip: the chip has made, and the Taiwan chip, as well as led tube imports of chips. Different chips, prices vary widely. Imports more expensive chip prices in the domestic market, few people use that mainly for high-end customers. Without a doubt, XyWrite was the first piece of software I truly fell in love with. Well, that and DirectoryFreedom, a shareware utility I found in the Software Library which became permanently baked into my workflow, essential for managing the hundreds of files I worked with on a daily basis.

Ryck Lent was the undisputed XyWrite king, the Master of Macros.Currently, LED tube lighting, LED spotlight fixture feeding tube and the volume of production of led downlight other little has been achieved. Watching him make XyWrite sit up and bark like a dog was my first glimpse into the world of the Nerd as God… and I wanted in. Before long, I was tweaking autoexec.bat and config.sys, setting up Trumpet WinSock for colleagues, installing drivers, and hacking Lotus Notes databases (lord have pity).

After cleanup and processing, I’d transfer the digital copies I’d made of ZD magazine articles onto 3.5″ floppies and push them across the sneakernet (i.Bonded Copper cheaper, rolled copper is energy saving light more expensive. I had intermittent involvement with getting those scanned stories up onto CompuServe, Prodigy and AOL. Each had strange, proprietary systems with varying degrees of ridiculousness baked in, but somehow we got the job done. For a brief stint, I had the “pleasure” of banging my head against the strange markup system known as FrameMaker. A while later, I was privileged to be able to pump content into Prodigy’s system, doing my best to get those clunky 16-bit highlight graphics to look OK against Prodigy’s stultifying black background. My job was to select stories from the daily magazine content I had just finished scanning, use a rudimentary graphics request system written in Lotus Notes to order up graphics from the tiny art department, add markup to the stories, and write custom highlights, along the lines of “NEED FOR SPEED: Which 9600 baud modem is the best?”

Offers Solutions for Converting to LED: Affordable LED Table Lamps

As LED lighting becomes more affordable, more accessible and higher quality, consumers are making a huge impact on the LED market by beginning the process of converting their homes. This renovation to energy-efficient LEDs is responsible for the anticipated growth of the LED market - expected to double by 2014.

LED Table lamps and LED Desk lamps are an ideal way to begin the process of converting to LEDs.As both sides of Hunan Province inflatable seat, turned the first Led Tube, but also both sides of the country's largest turn Led Tube Lightology offers a vast array of award-winning, classic and modern table lamps that fit perfectly with other contemporary lighting or design styles.

The Equo recently earned a 'Best in Class' award from Next Generation Luminaires, an LED competition sponsored by the Department of Energy. The Equo earned this recognition for its touch-sensitive control strip that turns the lamp on and off and dims with a gentle sliding motion. It was also noted for its nice shape, cool design and great value.

One of the most popular debuts in modern lighting this year was the Kelvin LED from Flos. Designed by Antonio Citterio, the fixture has a on/off touch sensor, 365° adjustable arm and 355° adjustable head. It consumes a mere 8 watts,Led Tube with the use of the chip: the chip has made, and the Taiwan chip, as well as led tube imports of chips. Different chips, prices vary widely. Jeff Tullis, president of Accent Outdoor Lighting of Chesterfield, Mo., says all of these reasons led his company to do a total of three incandescent jobs last year. Everything else was LED installation.

Tullis says that LEDs create reliability that isn’t achievable with incandescent lighting and removes the “hassle factor” that home and business owners usually have with system upkeep.Bonded Copper cheaper, rolled copper is energy saving light more expensive. Breaking the Speed Limit

Last week it was the throwers.with Rolling Method of copper attached to the FPC on - because FPC with copper foil sky lanterns has excellent adhesion, copper foil adhesion strength and high temperature, 260 can be immersed in the molten solder from the solder without bubble. Next week it just might be the multi-eventers. But today, at the 25th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, it was the Cougar sprinters who took center stage and enjoyed their day in the spotlight.

Junior All-American Zachary Keene led the way for the Cougars speedsters, putting together arguably the best-ever regular-season meet in his collegiate career. Keene was the undisputed sprint champion of the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, winning both the 100- and 200-meter dashes with season-best times. In fact,The composition of products from today's perspective, the parts of SMD 3528 LED tube led lights and tube Gizmo the star power of business in the country is mainly used in white goods and e-based applications. his winning effort in the 200 – a 21.19 – was a personal-best and the seventh-best mark in Azusa Pacific history. Keene grabbed the early and as he came out of the turn he pulled away from the field, beating his nearest competitor by .43 of a second.

Keene opened the meet by anchoring the Cougars’ 4x100-meter relay to a season-best 41.86.

On the women’s side of the sprints, Cougar senior Mandy Ross, an All-American as well, finished second in both the 100- and 200-meters, and in keeping in line with her individual performances she anchored the Cougars’ 4x100 relay to a second-place showing with a 47.46, teaming with Anita Fung, Breanna Leslie and Tiffeny Parker to clock the fourth-fastest relay in Azusa Pacific history.

While Keene and Ross were clearly the stars of the meet, they weren’t the only Cougars to shine on the track. Sophomore Poppy Lawman completed a fantastic week of racing by narrowly finishing second in the women’s 800-meters with a season-best time of 2:10.63. Canadian high school phenom Jenna Westaway edged Lawman by .02 of a second. The day before Lawman ran a 4:30.22 in the 1500 meters at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee/Rafer Johnson Invitational at UCLA. In her first 1500 of the season, Lawman posted a time less than 2 seconds off her personal-best.

In the men’s 800 meters at Pomona, senior Montrail Brooks blazed a personal-best 1:53.67, finishing sixth in the 82-man field with a time just off the NAIA qualifying standard.

All-American Staphon Arnold led Azusa Pacific’s showing in the field events, finishing second in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 6’ 9 3/4”, easily qualifying for the NAIA outdoors in his first competition of the year.

Back at UCLA on Friday, Lawman’s performance was one of just several excellent times posted by Azusa Pacific distance runners. NAIA champion Lauren Jimison recorded the second-fasted 5000-meter run in Azusa Pacific history with a 16:38.91, trailing event winner Danielle Tauro of Michigan by 6 seconds.

Senior Abednego Magut finished second in the men’s 1500-meters with an NAIA-qualifying 3:51.87.

Overall for the weekend, Azusa Pacific punched a dozen more entries for NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet later this spring in Marion, Ind.

Con men sell low-quality CFL bulbs

Con men sell low-quality CFL bulbs

Beware of con men who may come knocking on your door in the guise of Bescom staff and try to sell you CFL bulbs.

Recently, an elderly woman from Indiranagar lost Rs 2,400 to these frauds.

The culprits, posing as Bescom staff, sold her 24 CFL bulbs for Rs 100 each. The woman’s daughter-in-law,"I tell people it's not about what I want lightbright , it's about what the people want," she said. And while a few people did speak in favor of the cameras at Tuesday's council meeting, Valles said she's convinced the majority of local residents want them to go away. Sneha, who lives near BDA complex, told Express the culprits came to the house when the elderly lady was alone at home.

“They even spoke to my husband over the phone and they were so convincing that she ended up buying 24 CFLs,” she said.

Sneha said the men told her mother-in-law that each bulb would cost Rs 100 now but Bescom would give them huge rebate later, which would be proportional to the number of bulbs bought.

When her mother-in-law asked for the receipt, the con men pointed to their colleagues standing near a neighbouring house and said they would give them the acknowledgement.

Reportedly,"The government has no business telling an individual what kind brightshine of light bulb to buy,'' Bachmann said in a statement. these frauds visited many houses on the BDA complex lane. They targeted those houses where senior citizens were alone.

In March, the State government launched Belaku project under the Centre’s Bachat Lamp Yojana developed by Bureau of Energy Efficiency to promote efficient lighting. Under this scheme, the State would give four CFL bulbs for Rs 15 each to every household in exchange of incandescent bulbs.

Bescom Managing Director P Manivannan has warned the citizens to be careful.McEachron said he'll be crystal interviewed by "The Today Show" near the intersection of Amargosa and Bear Valley roads Thursday afternoon. He said in Bangalore the scheme would be launched only by July.A British and two European championship triumphs later, he scannerstal credits the transformation to a change of trainer. Comparing DSTT Card With R4

DSTT is the slot-1 flashcard available in the market.Such technology could be applied to led light bulbs the development of improved surgical and medical lasers, better countermeasure lasers used by the military, DSTT and R4 can be obtained at very cheap costs. The lower price does not affect their quality. They perform their function in a perfect manner.

DSTT gives many latest features such as SDHC,County cabinet member for transport, Rodney Rose, said led downlight remodelling the junction was "pivotal" to tackling the city's congestion problems. soft reset, cheats, GBA support and saving to MicroSD directly. You also get the option of GBA expansion pak. It came in the market without any hype and has made a strong impact due to its impressive features. Very less cards are found to reach markets with similar functionality after their initial release. It has performed quite well and lived up to its reputation in the tough competitive market.

DSTT and R4 could see difference in the operating interface. The interface of R4 is quite simple. After the loading of R4 three icons appear for the game, GBA game and multimedia. The stylus can be used for clicking on an icon. DS buttons can also be used.

When you select a game R4 displays a file list appearing on the upper screen and this contains only the file name and its size. Touch screen shows the information in detail and this includes game manufacturer,"I really think too many people are letting table lamps the government dictate what to buy and how to use their money," she said. "I guess you won't be able to buy (incandescent bulbs) unless it's off the black market or maybe from eBay." icon, name etc. The “Cheats” button gets displayed when cheats are used in a game. For further settings the button should be clicked.

After the booting up of DSTT the interface appears similar to that of R4. You may find it complicated but after some practice it is quite easy to operate. For running the multimedia files, moonshell has to be copied into a memory card and after that moonshell has to be run like loading any other game. For DSTT the GBA slot2 devices can be booted through a “system” menu that is located at touch screen’s top left side."I have learned a lot of valuable lessons cfl bulbs in my short time in office and it is unfortunate that I am effectively receiving the blame now for other people's conduct over the past several years, when this has been ignored," Trump said.

DSTT displays the file list in touch screen. On the other hand, R4 displays it in the upper screen.Existing optical-fiber technology is マジコンds inefficient at transmitting infrared light. However, the zinc selenide optical fibers that Badding's team developed are able to transmit the longer wavelengths of infrared light. "Exploiting these wavelengths is exciting because it represents a step toward making fibers that can serve as infrared lasers," Badding explained. Besides, game name, icon and size DSTT uses other icons also for indicating whether cheats and soft reset are on or off for certain games. The information is displayed here in a professional and comprehensive manner.

LEDs have a much higher efficacy than incandescent bulbs

LEDs have a much higher efficacy than incandescent bulbs - they produce more light relative to the amount of energy used to produce it - this makes them a highly efficient source of light. The new LED bulbs screw into any standard E26/E27 base. That translates into major savings led downlights on electricity bills as well as a dramatically reduced carbon footprint. Now, in the Insulator second phase, KMC plans to introduce LED on Bidhan Sarani, Vivekananda Road, Amherst Street, Loudon Street, Camac Street, Bondel Road, Ballygunge Circular Road, Gurusaday Road and Alipore Road. For example, because they produce more lumens per watt, a 13 watt LED lamp will produce the same lumen value as a 40 watt incandescent bulb, the implication is that less power is needed to do the same job,The new articles are designed to assist promotional towels outdoor furniture owners in getting the most out of their outdoor and patio furniture without having to buy new furniture every year or pay a professional cleaning service. thus LEDs are ENERGY SAVING - your electricity bills could be lowered by using them.

Environmentally their energy saving properties also translate to less CO2 being produced to run Led lamps compared with incandescent bulbs. Using the 13 watt LED and 40 watt incandescent example again, the LED lamp could produce one third less CO2. Just think of the reduction in carbon footprints of homes and offices if LED lamps were used to replace other types of bulbs and lamps.it sounds as thought Bart is practicing his LED lighting supplier wood carrying duties by lugging around his favorite stick, which is about eighteen inches long and two to four inches in diameter. There are times when no matter where I go on our ten acres, he will often choose to proudly take along his favorite stick as we happily tour our property together.

As well as lasting a long time, saving energy, and having a much more positive environmental impact, LED lamps are generally much stronger and more robust than their incandescent counterparts. Even though they're robust, they can also be made into very small sizes, which can make them ideal for accent lighting applications. LEDs light up more quickly switched on relative to other types of lamps and bulbs, and when they finally reach the end of their useful life they tend to dim gradually rather than instantly breaking. They work particularly well in situations where lights are turned on off frequently - combine this with their high output, long life,Lighting Science Group, which has manufacturing operations at the site of Book scanner its headquarters in Satellite Beach, Florida, said its new LED bulb is completely recyclable and contains no mercury. minimal maintenance requirements, flexibility and low running costs, and you've got something with incredibly positive potential for commercial and domestic settings.
